Patient-centered approach to heart rhythm management

I am a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist with specific expertise in treatment of heart rhythm disturbances (arrhythmia), including heart palpitations, atrial fibrillation, ectopic beats, fast heart beats, syncope (fainting), supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia. I specialise in all aspects of managing heart rhythm abnormalities, including specialised diagnostics, medical therapy and catheter ablation procedures to cure heart rhythm abnormalities.

Understanding heart rhythm abnormalities and the available treatment options can be a daunting prospect for a patient. My website is designed with the aim of providing patients with some insight into their heart rhythm abnormalities and the available treatment options. I pride myself in providing a patient-centred approach with detailed consultations to help patients to work through the treatment options that are ideally suited to them.

I am one of a select few European electrophysiologists to have had the privilege to undertake advanced specialisation in management of heart rhythm abnormalities at both the Harvard affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Hospital Haut Leveque in Bordeaux. I spent three years in USA (at the Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital) and a further year in France (at Hospital Haut Leveque, Bordeaux). The experience provided an opportunity to work with pioneers of atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia and supraventricular tachycardia ablation techniques.

I am based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, the largest specialist heart hospital in the UK. Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is a tertiary referral centre covering Merseyside, Wirral, Cheshire, and North Wales. I have led the development of a supra-regional service for specific heart rhythm abnormalities which has given me an opportunity to share my expertise by training consultants from UK and Europe on performing complex catheter ablation procedures. I am one of the highest volume operators for complex ablations in the North West of England.

I have an extensive research profile in heart rhythm abnormalities. My research focuses on continually improving safety and effectiveness of catheter ablation procedures by using state-of-the-art technology. I am the Chief Investigator of a UK multicentre study on catheter ablation.
